Dany is a Master student from ETH Zurich, currently working on engineering tolerance in S. cerevisiae for lactic acid production from lignocellulose hydrolysates. Due to environmental issues and dwindling fossil fuel resources, progression from a petroleum-based to a more sustainable economy by means of renewable resources, such as plant biomass, has become a matter of societal interest. The last few years have witnessed rapid advances in the commercialization of cellulosic ethanol. Now, the production of higher value chemicals from lignocellulose is attracting widespread interest.
